jingle bell

This message is from O's teacher...it was just too fun not to share:

Good Afternoon Families!

I hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful Thursday!  I know that we are!  We have had another wonderful and busy day in the starfish room! This morning we played in the sensory table again, and used our math activities.  In or math activities we did some matching, clothes pin counting, and counting to 5 along with color sorting.  We enjoyed it very much!  Another new things we liked today was our new colors and shapes that were made!  Not only did all those exciting things happen but we also have a new friends with us.  Overnight our Elf on the Shelf appeared!!  Our class named her Jingle Bell.  So if your child is talking about Jingle Bell its our Elf who looks over us to make sure we are being good for Santa.  Each night Jingle Bell will return to the North Pole and report to Santa.  When she comes back in the morning she will be hidden in a new place to watch the children.  It makes for a very fun game!  Everyone ate lunch SUPER well again today!!!

Happy Thursday!!
Miss Molly :)

P.S. Take a look at our picture!  See if you can spot Jingle Bell!

carpe diem

One of our faculty members lost his wife to cancer last night.  She was a brave and strong soul.  Many people in our college are struggling with the news.  I am taking notice that Kris lived with passion and embraced each day as a new opportunity.  To you, Kris...teaching others to carpe diem.

the talk

We are realizing that it may be the time to have the talk with A...it breaks my heart to have this conversation as I never believed in Santa, but Brad and I decided the time has come to be straight with him.  If there is anyone out there reading this, who can comment,  is there a special way to initiate the conversation?

Letting him know that the spirit of Santa and of giving is alive and well is the goal of this interchange...I'm just kind of chicken to initiate the conversation.  I am not shy about many things, but this one has me thinking.

elf on the shelf

A new little elf named Finnley has inhabited the Olson residence this holiday season.  A, K, O and I read the story and named our house elf, Finnley.  K and I searched the upstairs to see if we could find him and she spied him atop our china cabinet this morning.  She is hoping Finnley will report good things to Santa regarding her behavior ;)

Blomgren celebration!

On Saturday afternoon and evening and Sunday morning/early afternoon, we were able to spend some quality time with the Blomgren family.  It always feels too short when spending time with 29 people, but it was pretty wonderful.  We gathered at the Holiday Inn in Mankato in a meeting room and spent time visiting, eating and swimming in the pool area.  We also drew names for our family holiday gift exchange.  All too soon, it was time to put kiddos to bed and turn out the lights in our super comfy hotel room.

On Sunday we had a great breakfast, swam and then went to the River Hills Mall for a few hours before we met at Apple Wood for their delicious buffet.

Thanks Mom and Dad for a wonderful winter getaway!

arctic blast!

While napping with O yesterday afternoon, Betty came down to wake me.  Our neighbor, Bob had called to report the chickens had escaped their warm little hutch.  Bleary eyed, I attempted to get a hold of a friend who was caring for our little hens to no avail.

My intentions were to drive home anyway last night as I am working this morning, so I quickly packed up and left the family with Grandma Betty.  Thankfully, I left when I did--about half way home it started to rain.  When I made the River Falls city limits, it started to sleet.  I am so thankful I wasn't out in the thick of it!  It went from mid 50s in the morning to freezing in about 8 hours.

While I was home alone last night, I got quite a bit of Christmas decorating done.  Check out our theolsons5.blogspot.com for photos.

positive conferences

Brad and I met with A and K's teachers last night.  They both received positive reviews.  There is always room for improvement but it was really nice to see that they both have carved a nice little place for themselves at school.  Both are rock stars in reading and math!  Way to go.

Today I will be attending a handful feast in K's classroom and her teacher also invited me to help in the classroom a couple of days per week with guided reading.  I am hoping this will assist with an in road to eventually leading a class of learners at the school.

all I want for Christmas

KGO will be singing this familiar and heartwarming tune soon.  She lost tooth 8d when her brother, O knocked her in the mouth this afternoon.  With loosing 8d, she now has lost five of the 24 teeth in her mouth.  She just informed me that she only has 19 more to go.  Always an opportunity for a math lesson ;)

deer hunter

Anders called at about 11:30 am yesterday...he had just killed a nubbin buck at about 8 am.  At first, Anders thought he hit something and went out to look for a blood trail with Grandpa and uncle Brent. He wasn't able to find any blood, so thought he must not have hit his target.  Then Brad came to see what was going on and also looked for a trail.  On his way back to his stand, Brad found the little buck and proceeded to let Anders know of his downed deer.

When I asked the mighty hunter how he felt, his response was "great Mom!".  Auntie Molly got a photo of the mighty hunter and his deer.  I will share when I get a copy.

twi bye

My sweet friend, Jess Pacheco bought tickets for the 10pm showing of Twilight Breaking Dawn Part II for myself and three other friends from Mom's Group.  I had put O to bed last night and fell asleep in the process.  My intentions were to meet the ladies outside of the theater at 9:30pm, but I awoke at 10:00pm, jammed my feet into a pair of tennies and bolted for the door.

I arrived at the theater and thankfully the ticket hostess asked "are you Karen?  Your friends thought you stood them up!"  She allowed my entrance and I walked into a completely dark theater so was unable to locate the group, so I found an empty seat and sat down to be entertained for 2 hours.

The movie was good.  I will not say it was great as would have the throngs of young ladies who were also watching the show, but it was good.  I would say Bella probably turned in her best acting performance of the entire series.   Renesme was a little creepy looking as a baby, but she turned into an absolutely gorgeous girl.  The leader of the Volturi had a super eerie laugh, but otherwise, the movie was good.

When the movie was finished, I was able to meet up with Jess and the group, and Jess told me she would lend me the series so I could catch up on the movies I missed.

Bye Bye Twilight, it's been real.

twinkle twinkle little star

O LOVES music as does his older siblings.  Lately he has been singing various songs around the house.  Some of his favorites are:  The Farmer in The Dell--specifically the part where the rat takes the cheese, that seems to be his most favorite, The Wheels on the Bus and my ultimate, heart-warming favorite, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.

If the stars are aligned, I will capture the sweetness on video and posting in the future.

break day 3

Woke up on my home farm and headed over to Brandt Ridge to get the last of Moms stuff packed and brought to Kyle and Kim’s garage. We got he...
