Saturday morning was the perfect day for a drive to lovely Northfield Minnesota where I met my brother Kurt at Subway and we drove together up to the picturesque campus of Saint Olaf. We parked and were greeted by a shivering 14 year old girl who was keying up for her first state cross country meet.
Kurt and I quickly found our parents who were grinning from ear to ear and also spied our 17 year old nephew warming up to run 3.1 miles. Kyle Dean Jr. started and finished the race strong and looked like a million bucks. One hour later, we watched the lithe Liana Marie speed the 4000 meters to the much anticipated finish line.
We watched the festivities with Ryan, Kim, Gloria, Johnny, Patrice and hundreds of other spectators. We did see brother Kyle jogging around the area with his runners and his kids and also brother Adam Joseph helping his twin warm up on the field.
It was my first and hopefully not last cross country meet. Ryan is predicting that I will be there many times to watch him compete at the state meet ;)
