days of the week

Montessori curriculum is so fun and engaging. Today I taught the etymology of the names for the days of the week. One student was so inspired to learn more that she spent two hours reading really challenging text and then wrote a lot about what she read...so exciting.

Sunday is named after the sun

Monday is named after the moon

Tuesday is named after Tiu, the germanic god of war

Wednesday is named after Woden, the norse chief god

Thursday is named after Thor, the norse god of thunder and lightening

Friday is named after Frig, the norse goddess who was married to Woden

Saturday is named after Saturn, the god of farming

Of all I think Friday is the best (only female)
