45

Happy 45th wedding anniversary to the people who made my husband the man he is... Much love Bud and Betty.  Thank you for getting married and raising your family!

women rock

One hour seven minutes...that is the time it took me to run the Women Rock 10K this morning with my friend, Michelle Johnson.  I placed 1444 of about 3700 runners.  The day was warm and it was exhilerating.

cool runnings

Watching a favorite movie with my children this evening.  Cool Runnings.  The dialect reminds me of living on the island of St. Croix and the story line is sweet.

orientation

Middle school orientatioon for a very special young man in our family.  He found his locker with ease, opened it with the same ease and confidently found his different classrooms.  Praying for continued success for a cool kid.

Happy Birthday to a lovely and caring woman.  Betty Jean Olson spent her evening with us at Perkins as we celebrated the anniversary of her birthday.

rain rain please come back to play

It is time for a big time rain shower in the upper midwest.  The dirt in our garden is like dust.  I welcome the rains to come pouring down and wet our ground, build up our water table and make our earth happy again.

Football in the heat

Football season has started and the practices this week were cancelled due to extreme heat.  I am thankful for smart coaches and safe kids.

school days

Just a quick update.  Here is our sweet Dehlia Grace heading off to her first day of preschool.  She is wearing cousin Kathryn's dress ;)

still here

Hi.  It's been a little while and I am planning to carve some time out either this evening or next to properly update the blog.  But life has been a little busy with getting the classroom prepared for 19 industrious learners.  See you soon!

so long CAFES!

Every book closes.  My time as an employee of UW River Falls is nearing the final page.  It has been a wonderful read--starting December 3, 2007 with a light snow shower, coordinating a whopping five awards banquets and three senior suppers, reserving facilities for numerous faculty and staff, ordering food, ordering food and ordering food to feed our hungry students and faculty/staff, watching amazing students grow and learn--from them walking in the door seeking employment in our office or on the farm to graduating and getting great jobs in their field--taking time off to be a Mommy to our third child and also to teach for a year in the Caribbean.  I have received full support and then some from my colleagues and my supervisors.

And now its August 23, 2013 and another journey or book will soon begin.

It's been real.  It's been fun.  It's been real fun.

corpse flower

The River Falls Corpse flower is blooming again!  The first time it bloomed was in 2010 shortly after I returned to work after maternity leave with O.  Last night, the kids and I went to see and smell the phenomenon.  We rode our bikes over and could smell the aroma from about 50 yards.  There were several people checking out the flower.  A missed the first blooming and decided that wasn't such a bad thing as the flower is super stinky.  Right after we viewed the flower, we headed over to the hotel to take a dip in the pool.

It was a super fun evening, albeit stinky.

Sunday at the Bee

The lovely weather held for the Sunday show.  Our family arrived on the grounds a little earlier on Sunday as we heard Brian Stout deliver the Sunday Service message at 9am.  We rode the train several more times, visited the children's barn yard, the Tuberg homestead, made a candle, visited the General Store, the harness shop (where we found a receipt my dad had written in 1978) and the country school house.  A spent the entire day with his cousin Ryan as they were working the ice cream stand together.  They worked so well together and it was fun to see their enthusiasm!

Time to say so long to another fun show...I hope it continues on for many years to come and the people who dedicate so many hours are interested in carrying on the traditions/passing the torch.  We left the ground about 4pm and went back to Mountain Lake for BLTs and tearful goodbye.  O really wanted to stay at Grandma and Grandpas--he just had too much fun!

I think it was a long weekend for a 3 year old and everything at the Bee was of high interest to him.  Perhaps the torch can be handed way down to a three year old; we shall see...
