day 6 BWCA August 6

Site 52 was stellar! It was the nicest campsite we’ve ever had in the BWCA. Here is the map and a review that Nate had read when researching a great place for us to camp. Thanks for your work, Nate.

Day six dawned calm and clear as we had wet gear and we’re packing up. Breakfast was oatmeal and the last bit of coffee. We got loaded up and shoved off island at about 9am and paddled about an hour and 15 minutes back to the landing. It was a little windy in the big open areas but really perfect paddling conditions compared to Friday. Another group arrived at the same time so Katie took their photo and one of their party took ours.

Then it was to a great convenience store in Lutsen where we all marveled at all the food and the running water after washing our hands.

We got to Superior at about 3pm for a pizza lunch at the Thirsty Pagan. YUM! We then drove to Grantsburg to divvy up boats and have an early birthday celebration for Bud who is turning 80 on Monday.

On to River Falls to deliver our borrowed canoe and trailer and all to take much needed showers. I started the first of five loads of laundry and fell thankfully into our newly mattressed bed.

What a magical week!
